Fan Metrics & Definitions

Energy Performance

Power Input at Max Speed [W]
Amount of power required to operate the product when the fan setting is at the highest speed.

Air Delivery [m3/min]

Amount of airflow delivered by the fan when set at maximum speed.

Energy Efficiency Value [m3/min/W]
Volume of airflow delivered by the product per Watt of input power. Higher value means higher efficiency.

Highest Regulated Speed [RPM]
Speed of how fast the fan shaft spins and rotates, defined in rounds per minute.

Nominal Conditions
Measured according to factory default settings.

Over-Voltage Conditions
Measured during voltage fluctuation conditions, e.g. during battery charging and discharging cycles. Product is tested with an increased voltage (15% increase from the manufacturer’s rated input voltage).

Under-Voltage Conditions
Measured during voltage fluctuation conditions, e.g. during battery charging and discharging cycles Product is tested with a decreased voltage (15% decrease from the manufacturer’s rated input voltage).

Post Environment Conditions
Measured after the product is exposed to 40°C ± 2°C temperature and 93% ± 3% relative humidity for a minimum of 24 hours prior to testing, replicating environment factors the off-grid products are used in.

Quality & Durability

Drop Resistance
Durability of the product after dropping from an elevated surface one meter above ground. The test ensures that the product can still function and is still safe for consumers to use after dropping. Drop resistance test only applies to fans that are portable, e.g. pedestal and table fans.

Safety & Consumer Protection

Ingress Protection Rating [IP number]
Rates the effectiveness of the sealing of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (e.g. fingers, tools, dirt, etc.). More about IP number ratings.

Warranty [months]
Duration of the consumer-facing product warranty that covers manufacturing defects under normal use.

These metrics are defined in the Global LEAP Off-Grid Fan Test Method.
