The industry’s efforts to meet global demand for off-grid solar products and reach new customers have seen a 40% increase in solar home system sales worldwide with PAYGo sales reaching the 1 million mark for the first time in the past six months.

In ensuring that these larger off-grid solar products are as accessible as possible, there has been a surge in the number of customers choosing the PAYGo model to purchase a solar home system.

The report highlights greater visibility of products across appliance markets in this second iteration with increased participation from companies leading to more comprehensive data.

In the first half of 2019 off-grid solar products have gained new ground and provided increased and improved access to energy for customers, especially to support productive use applications. There is an emergence of clear mutually beneficial linkages between their sales and those of solar home systems, and the continued growth of the solar home system suppliers and distributors.

These systems are having a significant social and economic impact in customers’ homes and businesses, unlocking extra working hours and generating additional income, leading to them being more economically empowered. Companies selling these products also create many jobs across the supply chain.
