Solar Appliances for Our Planet

The campaign demonstrated how supporting the development of efficient, affordable solar-powered appliances and technologies could help accelerate a just and inclusive clean energy transition globally, and assist vulnerable communities in adapting to climate change.

Efficiency for Access believes there is no trade-off between addressing climate change and meeting the living standards and aspirations of the world’s poorest people. To help achieve this, it is vital to enhance access to affordable, high-performing, and inclusive appliances in developing countries that are powered by renewable energy sources. As a result, it is more important than ever to put access to affordable, climate friendly and inclusive appliances that serve people and the planet front and centre on the sustainable development agenda.

On 15 November 2021, after the close of COP26 in Glasgow, Efficiency for Access celebrated the conclusion of the ‘Solar Appliances for Our Planet’ communications campaign. Over the course of three and a half months, Solar Appliances for Our Planet partnered with over 25 organisations, earned more than five million potential impressions on social media and reached participants across 38 countries. The kick-off of the campaign included a fact sheet that demonstrated how supporting the development of efficient, affordable solar-powered appliances and technologies could help accelerate a just and inclusive clean energy transition globally, and assist vulnerable communities in adapting to climate change and building resilience. Other highlights of the campaign included Efficiency for Access’ virtual showcase with GOGLA, working with ICF and the International Energy Agency (IEA) as energy co-theme leads and personally running two events at the COP Resilience Hub and convening and participating in two events at the SDG 7 Pavilion at COP26. Programme Partners and Donor Coalition members, including BASE – Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy, EEP Africa, Engineers Without Borders UK, NDF, Shell Foundation and the World Food Programme, collaborated with us to produce six blog posts on food securityempowering youthagricultural value chain resilienceadaptation in rural settingsinnovative business models and financing clean energy initiatives. We would like to offer a sincere thank you to everyone who supported this campaign!
