Angaza: Standards-Based Software for Secure Communication Between Off-Grid Devices
Seeking to increase access to inclusive and affordable solar appliances in Sub-Saharan Africa, Angaza developed standards-based software for secure communication between off-grid devices.
With over half the population of Sub-Saharan Africa lacking electricity, solar-powered appliances like lanterns and water pumps are game-changers. However, appliances can still be unaffordable to run for many people living in off-grid areas. The Efficiency for Access Research and Development Fund supported Angaza to develop an open-source technology for the PAYGo industry, known as the Nexus Channel.
Angaza’s Nexus Channel software optimises energy use and reduces costs for distributors. Ideal for PAYGo financing, the software allows smart appliances to communicate with each other and the companies that manage them, ensuring critical energy needs like food preservation are prioritised and energy use is efficiently managed.
See how these advancements are transforming lives and paving the way for universal energy access.
