Solar-Powered Success Story – Farmality

Empowering small-scale farmers with solar-powered food drying solutions

Millions of tons of food are wasted across the world every year, exacerbated by factors like unpredictable weather and inefficient storage practices. While food drying presents a solution, traditional methods are labour-intensive and outdated. Electrical dehydrators, though effective, are often costly.

Recognising this gap, a team of students from from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) rose to the challenge. Taking on the Efficiency for Access Design Challenge with their solar-powered dehydrating system, they aimed to combat food waste and empower small-scale farmers. This fully operational appliance now powers their business: Farmality.
