Energy Saving Trust and Engineers Without Borders UK to pause Efficiency for Access Design Challenge

Energy Saving Trust, co-Secretariat of Efficiency for Access, and Engineers Without Borders UK announce a pause in the Efficiency for Access Design Challenge. This pause will take effect following the Grand Final on 26 June, with the delivery team concluding activities for the 2024–2025 cycle of the Challenge.

Efficiency for Access is co-managed by Energy Saving Trust and CLASP. Energy Saving Trust has collaborated with Engineers Without Borders UK to deliver the Challenge.

The pause will allow time for strategic reflection on the competition and its future direction. The Challenge has successfully developed skills and knowledge for globally responsible engineering. However, the delivery team recognises the need for the programme to align more closely with workforce needs in the off-grid appliance sector.

To ensure a smooth transition, the team is currently consulting with all participating educators and institutions.

The Efficiency for Access Design Challenge is a global competition that seeks to empower university students from around the world to create affordable and high-performance off-grid appliance projects that help enhance clean energy access. You can sign up to attend the Grand Final here.
