VeraSol Brings Quality Standards to Nigeria’s First Solar Generator Day
At Nigeria's first Solar Generator Day, Efficiency for Access partner VeraSol highlighted how quality standards and independent testing can build confidence in the country's growing solar generator market.
VeraSol co-hosted the inaugural Nigeria Solar Generator Day with GOGLA and ZE-Gen in Lagos, Nigeria, on 10 June 2026. The event brought together solar companies, investors, policymakers, and development partners to explore how the country can move away from petrol and diesel generators to renewable energy.
Nigeria has more people without electricity than any other country in the world, 86.8 million, and unreliable power costs the economy an estimated $25 billion every year, 5 to 7 percent of the country’s GDP. Solar generators are a cleaner, and more dependable alternative to keep things running.
That is why the Solar Generator Day’s conversations focused on four themes: understanding where demand is growing across Nigeria; connecting investors with solar companies and distributors; making products more reliable and consistent; and getting solar power into more homes and businesses across the country.
VeraSol is already doing this work. Through the ongoing Global LEAP Awards Solar Generator Competition, VeraSol is developing solar generators test methods to find out which ones truly perform well, giving investors the confidence to back the right products, businesses the assurance to choose wisely, and customers the certainty that what they buy will actually work. The results of the Competition, expected at the start of 2027, will identify the best products on the market today.
“As the solar generator market in Nigeria expands, product quality will be critical to building confidence among customers and investors. Through VeraSol, we provide the tools and data needed to verify performance and durability, helping to de-risk investment and scale up high-quality solar solutions,” said CLASP’s Ruth Kimani, Manager of the Global LEAP Awards.
The Global LEAP Awards is an international program that identifies and recognizes the highest-performing off-grid and weak-grid energy products. VeraSol develops and applies standardized test methods to independently evaluate and certify solar energy products, helping buyers, investors, distributors, and other stakeholders identify high-quality, reliable equipment in the market.
