VeraSol Test Lab Partners Take on an Expanded Role in Solar Energy Kit Certification in August
On a recent visit to China, the VeraSol team confirms the evolution of VeraSol's solar energy kit certification.
Beginning 17 August 2026, VeraSol will transfer elements of the certification process for solar energy kits to two partners, Intertek Testing Services – Government and Trade Services (GTS) and Shenzhen Academy of Metrology & Quality Inspection (SMQ). As announced in July 2025, we are transitioning certification to a new operational model that will be more efficient and will simultaneously reduce reliance on donor support. VeraSol will continue to oversee the program, issue certificates, and maintain the VeraSol Product Database as a trusted resource for the sector.
Key changes:
- A company seeking certification services will apply directly to an approved partner (not to CLASP) and work directly with them throughout the entire testing and evaluation process.
- The selected partner will issue a conformity assessment report at the end of the testing and evaluation process to indicate whether a product meets the quality standards (IEC 62257-9-8).
- If the product meets the standards, CLASP will issue a VeraSol certificate and list the product on the VeraSol Product Database.
- A new pricing structure will accompany the new certification process. Companies will pay the selected partner directly for testing and certification. Companies will continue to pay CLASP for any special services that do not involve testing, such as making changes to an existing specification sheet. Preview the updated pricing here.

This next phase builds upon long-standing collaborations with Intertek and SMQ to test and evaluate solar products and comes after months of training to prepare these partners to lead client engagement and issue conformity assessment reports. To formalize our expanded partnerships, members of the VeraSol team traveled to Shenzhen, China, earlier this month to attend official agreement signing ceremonies with Intertek and SMQ.
