VeraSol & GOGLA Deepen Engagement with Chinese Manufacturers to Advance Quality Standards

VeraSol and GOGLA recently conducted a joint visit to Shenzhen, China, to deepen engagement with one of the sector’s most influential manufacturing hubs.

Millions of families worldwide depend on off-grid solar products for connectivity, comfort, and livelihoods. But quality makes all the difference. Quality-assured products last longer, perform better, and protect consumers.

China plays a pivotal role in the global off-grid solar value chain, with many manufacturers supplying products to African and other emerging markets. Against this backdrop, VeraSol and GOGLA recently conducted a joint visit to Shenzhen, China, to deepen engagement with one of the sector’s most influential manufacturing hubs.

The visit marks an important step toward deeper collaboration with Chinese market actors. A key highlight was a one-day workshop, jointly hosted with GOGLA and the Shenzhen Academy of Metrology and Quality Inspection (SMQ), which convened 100+ manufacturers and industry stakeholders. The workshop raised awareness of quality standards and begin laying the groundwork for more systematic engagement with Chinese stakeholders.

Key Takeaways from the Visit

  • Growing interest in African markets: Many Chinese manufacturers are actively seeking to expand into more African markets, but require clearer guidance on quality requirements, certification pathways, and market entry expectations.
  • Need for clearer value signaling: While awareness of standards is increasing, companies are more likely to seek certification when the value propositions—such as access to financing, procurement and incentive programs—are explicit and consistent.
  • Opportunity for stronger ecosystem alignment: There is strong potential to better connect manufacturers with distributors, financiers, and policymakers to create a more coherent demand signal for quality products.

By continuing to engage upstream manufacturers, VeraSol and GOGLA aim to accelerate the transition toward a market where quality is the norm—not the exception—ultimately benefiting consumers, companies, and the sector as a whole.

We look forward to more opportunities to engage in the upcoming Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo in Kigali this October!
